Balenciaga ends collaboration with Kanye West
Hype-ridden fashion brand Balenciaga has terminated its most famous collaboration with controversial rapper Kanye West. "Balenciaga no longer has any relationship with this artist, nor are there any plans for future projects," fashion website "WWD" quoted luxury conglomerate Kering, to which the Paris-based Balenciaga brand belongs. Kanye West, who now calls himself Ye, had appeared as a model at Balenciaga's Paris show last month.
He opened a fashion show of the label at the Paris Fashion Week, wearing a dark jacket with the inscription "Security" that looked like combat gear. The resulting images of him from the show had been removed on Thursday and were no longer available on the Balenciaga website.
The rapper had been working with Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia for some time. As recently as the beginning of the year, the two had released a joint clothing line. Most recently, Kanye West had also been restricted for posts deemed anti-Semitic on popular online networks.
The rapper and fashion entrepreneur also caused a stir with controversial actions, for example his appearance with the "White Life Matter" shirt with which he appeared at the Fashion Week in Paris and caused a stir.
The recent appearances of Ye certainly make it difficult for companies to enter into new collaborations or to maintain existing ones. Several cooperation partners have since distanced themselves from the singer. At the beginning of October, the sporting goods manufacturer Adidas announced that it would "put the partnership to the test." A decision is still pending.
A little later, the U.S. bank J. P. Morgan ended all business relations with Yeezy Inc, Kanye West's fashion company. An official reason was not given, according to media reports, the decision had already been made in September, according to statements by the bank.
According to rumors, Kanye is now probably in psychological treatment, but this is not yet officially confirmed.
